Little Shell Tribe planning for new election

WEDNESDAY, JULY 9, 2003 The Little Shell Tribe of Montana has tentatively scheduled a new tribal council election for August 9. Tribal factions disputed the results of an earlier election, which led to a state Supreme Court decision that said the tribe had all the attributes of sovereignty. The tribe received preliminary recognition from the Bureau of Indian Affairs in May 2000. The tribe has been gathering more information to bolster its case for a final decision. Get the Story:
