Pequot Times writer wins awards at NAJA conference

TUESDAY, JULY 8, 2003 John Christian Hopkins, a staff writer for the Pequot Times, the newspaper of the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation, and a columnist for a Connecticut paper, received four awards at the 2003 Native American Journalists Association convention. Hopkins, a member of the Narragansett Tribe of Rhode Island, received honorable mention for Best Sports Writing, second place for Best Column Writing in a Native Publication, first place for Best News Writing-Monthly and first place for Best Feature Writing-Monthly.
