Frank King: Eliminating corruption and greed

MONDAY, JULY 7, 2003

"Today, many of our Native people do not comprehend the importance of unity, but pray to the god of individualism. They would destroy their own relatives to play tyrant over them or exploit them. This cold-heartedness is something I still don't understand when I see it, but many times human nature is cold and corrupt and couldn't care less about the needs of other people - which only contributes to a repetitive cycle of division.

We are still waiting for our Native leaders to find their way back to the people from the gloom of misery created by Iktomi. But the Trickster has always been among us, crawling through our blankets, biting us as we sleep. The leadership that is influenced by the Trickster brings to life the nightmare of poverty, which our people are unable to awaken from.

We drift through this dream of today trying to survive off what scraps are left for us in this backwards world created to satisfy another's greed."
