R.I. panel scheduled to consider casino bill

WEDNESDAY, JUNE 25, 2003 The Rhode Island House Finance Committee is scheduled to consider a bill that would put a casino before state voters but it may die before the end of the legislative session. The Narragansett Tribe has been seeking a casino for several years but needs voter approval. The issue has never gotten out of the State Legislature. The current version of the bill is not specific on who would host the casino or where it would be located. Critics say a casino should be tied to an operator. Get the Story:
