Live grenade found near Alaska Native village

TUESDAY, JUNE 24, 2003 A smoke grenade was found near the Alaska Native village of Tanacross on Monday as part of a review of the environmental impact of an air force base. The grenade was found at the end of a year-long study. The village wants to start a new two-year agreement with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to continue work. Tanacross is one of nine villages that have agreements through the Department of Defense's Native American Lands Environmental Mitigation Program. Get the Story:
