Women are now in charge of eight of 22 tribes in Arizona, The Arizona Republic says in an editorial.

"The heavy representation of women on tribal councils should set an example for the rest of the country, not to mention the U.S. Congress," the paper says.

In the past six months, three Arizona tribes have inaugurated women leaders; the Tohono O'odam Nation, the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community and the San Carlos Apache Tribe.
