Cherokee group promises not to seek casino

THURSDAY, JUNE 19, 2003 A Cherokee group seeking state recognition in Louisiana is promising not to open a casino during the next 99 years. The Boeuf River Band of Cherokees has received approval from the state Senate. But the chairman of the House committee in charge of the matter says he won't allow any tribes to be recognized as long as he is in charge. Get the Story:
