Calif. Republican lawmaker solicits tribes

THURSDAY, JUNE 19, 2003 California Senator Jim Battin (R) is asking gaming tribes to hire his public relations and media company, The Los Angeles Times reports. Battin, who received $140,000 in campaign donations from tribes last year, sits on the committee that oversees gaming issues. He says he isn't breaking any laws by soliciting tribal business. In a pitch to tribes, Battin says his company can help tribes boost their image and fight off political attacks. Get the Story:
