Calif. tribe asks Norton to hold 2 000 acres in trust

TUESDAY, JUNE 17, 2003 The Coastal Miwok Tribe of California has asked the Department of Interior to take 2,000 acres of land into trust for gaming purposes. The tribe's federal status was restored by legislation in 2000. The tribe currently has no reservation. Local officials and groups are opposing the tribe's plan to open a casino on the land.
