With the help of revenues from two casinos, the Fond du Lac Ojibwe Tribe of Minnesota has brought members of poverty, increased development on the reservation and become the largest employer in the county.

About 1,200 of the tribe's 3,500 members live on the reservation. The median household income has jumped 40 percent to $38,190, according to the 200 Census.

"Before casinos, no one came here," chairman Robert Peacock tells the Associated Press. "There was no economic, no political power. We were an afterthought. We were a welfare blur."
