School's discipline policy would consider Natives

WEDNESDAY, JUNE 11, 2003 Minneapolis public schools are considering a new discipline policy in light of the growing number of Indian students, and other minorities, being placed on suspension. A recent report found that more American Indian students were suspended in 2000-01 than in 1998-99. African-Americans accounted for 75 percent of all suspensions in 2000-01, the report said. The new policy, to be voted on June 24, would ask staff members to take into account the impacts of discipline on Indian and African-American students. Get the Story:
