Federal prosecutors say a former Bureau of Indian Affairs firefighter is competent to stand trial for helping to start one the worst fire in Arizona history.

Leonard Gregg is accused of starting the "Rodeo" portion of last summer's Rodeo-Chedeski fire. His lawyer contends he is not competent enough to understand statements he gave to investigators and cannot understand court proceedings.

Gregg is a member of the White Mountain Apache Tribe. The fire burned more than half of the tribe's reservation.
