Cherokee tribe in Ala. buys Sequoyah Caverns

TUESDAY, JUNE 3, 2003 The Cherokee Tribe of Northeast Alabama has purchased Sequoyah Caverns for $25,000, the Associated Press reports. The caverns are on traditional Cherokee territory. They are named after Chief Sequoyah, who invented the Cherokee syllabary. The tribe is not federally recognized. Get the Story:
