Minn. paper might drop ban on using Indian nicknames

The Minneapolis Star Tribune is considering dropping its policy against using Indian nicknames in its sports pages.

The change would end a 9-year ban on the use of names considered offensive to Native Americans. Joe Day, executive director of the Indian Affairs Council, said the paper would be taking a step backwards if it drops the policy.
