NIGC's Hogen speaks on Indian gaming issues
THURSDAY, MAY 29, 2003 Phil Hogen, chairman of the National Indian Gaming Commission, spoke at the 2003 Sovereignty Symposium in Oklahoma City on Wednesday. Hogen spoke about a number of issues he covered in his recent Senate testimony. He paid particular attention to Class II/Class III gaming issues in Oklahoma, where he said there has been more litigation about classification than any other state. Hogen has warned tribes about illegal gaming and says he is only trying to level the playing field. "The biggest problem in Oklahoma . . . is we'll get tribal leaders saying, 'We're playing by the rules, but our neighbor down the road is running Class III games and everyone is bypassing us and going there,'" he is quoted as saying by The Daily Oklahoman.
