The Little Shell Chippewa Tribe of Montana received preliminary recognition three years ago and is still waiting for a final answer on its federal status.

Roger Salois, a tribal council member, doesn't necessarily see that as a bad thing. The tribe has sought, and received, several extensions to finalize its application and he says another one is likely.

"This administration hasn't been too friendly to Indian causes," Salois told The Great Falls Tribune.

The tribe is also considering seeking legislative recognition, said the chairman of tribe's recognition committee.
