FRIDAY, MAY 23, 2003

Representatives of the United States and Mexico met on Thursday to discuss the historic El Camino Real de Tierra Adentro.

The 1,800-mile trail links San Juan Pueblo in northern New Mexico to Mexico City. Spanish explorers first used the route in the late 1500s and the tribe became host to the first capital of New Mexico.

The two countries are hoping to promote the history of the trail and highlight its impacts. It is currently designated as a National Scenic Byway.
