DOI officials to discuss Indian reorganization

TUESDAY, MAY 20, 2003 Department of Interior officials this week will talk about ongoing reorganization efforts at the Bureau of Indian Affairs and the Office of Special Trustee. Acting assistant secretary Aurene Martin and special trustee Ross Swimmer will testify on Wednesday before the Senate Committee on Indian Affairs. The hearing starts at 10 a.m. On Thursday, Martin and Swimmer will appear on the radio program Native America Calling at 1 p.m. to take questions about the changes. Tribal leaders oppose the ongoing efforts and some members of Congress want the administration to hold off pending further consultation with Indian Country. Relevant Links:
