S.C. pow-wow brings Indian community together

MONDAY, MAY 19, 2003 The Midlands Intertribal Empowerment Group held its eight annual pow-wow in Columbia, South Carolina, this weekend. Organizers estimated that representatives of 50 tribes showed up to the two-day event. It featured dancing, food and arts and crafts. The state has one federally-recognized tribe, the Catawba Nation. Several others are trying to state and federal status. Get the Story:
