Obituary: Edison Chiloquin fought termination

MONDAY, MAY 19, 2003 Edison Chiloquin, a member of the Klamath Tribe of Oregon who fought termination, died recently, the Associated Press reports. He was 79. The federal government terminated its relationship with the Klamath Tribe and ordered that all tribal assets be liquidated and distributed to tribal members. Chiloquin refused to accept the money and continued to claim use and ownership of ancestral tribal land. The tribe was restored recognition by Congress in 1980. Get the Story:
