Conn. tribes called 'country clubs' by excluded

THURSDAY, MAY 15, 2003 An author says Connecticut's two federally-recognized "country club" tribes are excluding legitimate tribal members. Sam Libby has organized a meeting for those who can't get enrolled in the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation or the Mohegan Tribe. He is considering protests, a public relations campaign and other measures. The Mashantucket Tribe limits enrollment to those whose ancestors appeared on 1900 or 1910 federal census of the tribe's reservation. The Mohegan Tribe recently cut off enrollment to all but lineal descendants of current tribal members. Get the Story:
