Senate committee holds rescheduled gaming hearing
MONDAY, MAY 12, 2003

The Senate Committee on Indian Affairs will hold an oversight hearing on the National Indian Gaming Commission this Wednesday.

The hearing was supposed to have taken place in February but was rescheduled due to a busy Senate schedule.

The hearing will look into the role and funding of NIGC, which has regulatory authority over the $12 billion Indian gaming industry. Lawmakers plan to boost the agency's funding, from $8 million to $12 million, and tribes want to make sure they are consulted about any changes.

The hearing will be proceeding by a business meeting that will start a 9:30 a.m. A live video feed of the hearing will be available at http://indian.senate.gov. An audio feed can be found at http://www.capitolhearings.org.
