Haskell celebrates commencement with pow-wow

MONDAY, MAY 12, 2003 Commencement ceremonies were held on Friday for the 175 students who graduated from Haskell Indian Nations University in Kansas. The 2003 Students of the Year were Lisa Powell and Heidi Baldwin. Powell, 40, a member of the Osage Nation of Oklahoma, has a 4.0 GPA in elementary education. Baldwin, 25, a member of the Kaw Tribe of Oklahoma, has a 3.9 GPA in business administration. Pola Farve, 29, Chupik Eskimo majoring in business administration, was named Haskell's Student of the Year by the American Indian Higher Education Consortium. The commencement pow-wow was held Friday through Sunday. It drew 200 dancers. Get the Story:
