Yellow Bird: The good SPAM and the bad spam
Facebook Twitter Email
MONDAY, MAY 5, 2003

"Spam - junk e-mail - is a pox on computers, the greatest technology of this century. It slows this giant invention to a crawling pace by throwing pictures on your computer screen of naked women and men, Viagra advertisements, irritating sales pitches for discount prescriptions or low-interest mortgages and whatever else you don't want but they're trying to sell to you anyway.

Nothing seems to be able to stop the persistent thief who steals our time. If I am gone for a few days, I can have 500 e-mails waiting for me upon my return, with more than three-fourths of them junk mail. These "spammers" have gotten resourceful, too. So, of the 500 e-mails, there will be about 100 that I don't recognize as spam. Each one could be a response to a column, so I have to open it."
