FRIDAY, MAY 2, 2003 Democrats successfully blocked the nomination of Priscilla Owen, a Texas state judge, to the 5th Circuit Court of Appeals. The 5th Circuit hears cases affecting tribes in Texas, Mississippi and Louisiana. The court has kept casinos owned by two tribes in Texas closed and has often ruled against tribal interests. Next week, the Senate will vote on the nomination of attorney John G. Roberts to the D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals. Roberts won the Venetie on behalf of the state of Alaska and lost the Rice v. Cayetano case for Hawaii. He is expected to be approved, The Washington Post reported. Get the Story:
