FRIDAY, MAY 2, 2003

The state of Montana hazed more than 280 bison back into Yellowstone National Park this week.

Conservationists said the hazing is hurting the animals, especially since it is calving season.

Montana officials are allowed to haze bison that wander out of the park boundaries under an agreement with the National Park Service. They are also allowed to slaughter the animals for fear of a deadly cattle disease.
