WEDNESDAY, APRIL 30, 2003

Minnesota Governor Tim Pawlenty set out his energy policy on Tuesday and said the state should move toward renewable energy sources instead of relying on nuclear power.

Pawlenty said a nuclear plant near the Prairie Island Indian Community should close sometime in the future. But he opposed a provision in a bill that would direct money away from renewable energy programs to the tribe.

The tribe opposes the plant but has agreed to monetary compensation while the plant is in operation.
