MONDAY, APRIL 28, 2003 An exhibit at the Mid America All-Indian Center in Wichita, Kansas, documents historical imprisonment of Native Americans and the paintings of Leonard Peltier. "Native America: Incarcerated" includes 27 photos from the 1800s. They were taken of Plains Indians who fought during the Indian Wars. Seven paintings by Peltier, the American Indian Movement activist convicted of killing two FBI agents, are included to show continuing oppression of Native Americans, says exhibitor Janine Martinez.
