S.D. church combines Native and Christian traditions

MONDAY, APRIL 21, 2003 The Calvary Cathedral holds the longest-running services in Rapid City, South Dakota, that combine Native traditions and Christian teachings. Church patrons like the informality of the "Tiospaye Wakan," or "Holy Family." Attendants sit in a circle with the altar and a fire in the middle and tipi coverings on the walls. Lakota is used for some ceremonies and sage and sweetgrass are used. Get the Story:
