S.C. bill to resolve recognition advances

A South Carolina House subcommittee passed a bill to place American Indian affairs under the state Minority Affairs Commission.

The bill would require the state to develop recognition criteria to recognize state tribes. Currently, there is only one federally recognized tribe in South Carolina, the Catawba Nation.
