The state of Connecticut has expanded the water-service authority of the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation, The New London Day reports.

The tribe's water service area was extended to include property the tribe owns in fee. The tribe plans to build a golf course resort on the land in question.

The transfer of authority prompted a complaint from a local leader who said all such issues have to go before a regional water committee. But the tribe purchased the land prior to the adoption of a regional water plan.
