Navajo Nation votes to negotiate water rights

WEDNESDAY, APRIL 9, 2003 A Navajo Nation committee voted 11-2 to start water rights negotiations with the state of Utah, The Farmington Daily Times reported. Critics questioned why talks should begin since the tribe doesn't have a position on water rights in the Upper Colorado Basin. Grassroots organizations have called on the tribe to file a lawsuit. Separately, the tribe is seeking to obtain a share of the Colorado River. Get the Story:
