Research published in today's issue of the Journal of the American Medical Association compares the quality of life of obese children to young cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy.

Obese children and cancer patients face nearly the same problems, the study said. The average score on a survey of health and life habits for obese children was 67. For cancer patients, it was 69.

In contrast, the average score for healthy children was 83.
