Oklahoma tribal advocates said lawmakers and the press have unfairly linked the debate over a state lottery with Indian gaming, The Oklahoma Daily reports.

At a debate held at Oklahoma University last week, speakers said the lottery won't affect tribal gaming. An attorney called threats otherwise "economic racism."

The issue is being put to the state voters. A primary sponsor of the lottery bill, who has called for a blood quantum rule to eliminate "wanabees" and once defended the display of a Confederate flag linked to the Cherokee Nation, has included a "self-destruct" clause to limit its applicability to Indian gaming.
