"Last week, I stepped out into the fickle spring weather to visit Lincoln, Neb., on Herald business, to follow the Lewis and Clark trail in Nebraska and to visit with the project director of the Lewis and Clark bicentennial.

I stopped in Omaha, Neb., with some friends to see Gerard Baker, superintendent of the Lewis and Clark National Historic Trail project. With this Hidatsa man in charge of the project, the project is in good hands. Baker has been a part of the National Park Service for more than 26 years. He is a historian, is dedicated to his work and follows many of the Hidatsa traditional customs."
