Panel to review revised Goshute waste proposal

MONDAY, APRIL 7, 2003

The Atomic Safety and Licensing Board, an independent review board of the Nuclear Regulatory Commission, will hold a hearing on a revised plan to store nuclear waste on the Skull Valley Goshute Reservation.

The board won't license a facility due to threats of airplane crashes from a nearby Air Force base. The backers of the project, eight private utility companies known as Private Fuel Storage (PFS), have responded with a scaled-back proposal. The NRC is also appealing.
