The trust fund case is about forcing the federal government to be accountable to individual Indians, the executive director of the Native American Rights Fund said.

John Echohawk spoke at Iowa State University. He talked about the case, tribal sovereignty protection and the importance of teaching Indian history, the Iowa State Daily reported.

The trust fund case was initiated in 1996. It has affirmed the right of Indian beneficiaries to an accounting of their funds.
