Tribes all over the nation are contributing millions to political campaigns. But don't count the Southern Ute Tribe among them.

The tribe has donated less than $1,000 to candidates, The Durango Herald reports, and that was for state campaigns. Instead, the tribe spends it money on lobbyists.

Pearl Casias, vice chairman, doesn't think it's wise to pour money into campaigns, even though tribes are exempt from campaign donation limits. "I don’t think sovereignty can be bought," she said.
