Minn. panel rejects urban casino proposed by tribes

WEDNESDAY, APRIL 2, 2003 The Minnesota House Governmental Operations and Veterans Affairs Committee voted 10-8 against a plan to build an urban casino that would support two remote Ojibwe tribes. Due to their location, the White Earth and Red Lake tribes haven't benefited from the gaming boom. They proposed to split revenues from casino in the Twin Cities area with the state. The 11 member tribes of the Minnesota Indian Gaming Association opposed the proposal. Get the Story:
