Protection sought for Missouri River sites

Six tribal sites along the Missouri River in South Dakota are up for placement on the National Register of Historic Places.

The sites date as far back as 1000 A.D. and document several tribal cultures. They could be transferred to tribes or to the state, according to the State Historical Society.
