TUESDAY, APRIL 1, 2003

The Confederated Tribes of Coos, Lower Umpqua and Siuslaw Indians are working with an Oregon senator to regain control of 63,000 acres of land.

The tribe is landless and was restored federal status in 1984 after being terminated. The land would come out of the Siuslaw National Forest.

Separately, the tribe is in court to force the state to negotiate for a gaming compact. The case is set to go to trial on April 10.
