FRIDAY, MARCH 28, 2003

The Navajo Nation asked the state of Arizona's Department of Homeland Security to station National Guard troops on the reservation but the request was turned down, The Arizona Daily Sun reports.

Navajo Nation Vice President Frank Dayish Jr. is concerned that terrorists may attack power plants, mining operations, dams and oil and gas reservoirs on the reservation. But the state said it could only put troops at locations that have been specifically threatened.

The Navajo Reservation is the largest in the country. It spans three states.
