The New Zealand government and the Ngati Awa Tribe signed a $42 million settlement related to a 19th century treaty.

As part of the agreement, the government apologized for breaching the 1840 Treaty of Waitingi. The tribe will receive deeds to several parcels of land, a cash settlement and ownership of 64 hectares of the Kaingaroa Forest.

Another Maori Tribe believes the deal infringes on its pending claim.
