Court: Tribe owes school district for education

A state court in South Carolina has ruled that the Catawba Nation owes a local district $900,000 for the education of Indian children.

The fees are reportedly authorized by the tribe's settlement act, which restored the tribe's federal status. The tribe expects to appeal.
