Ariz. tribes share construction woes

THURSDAY, MARCH 20, 2003 The Salt River Pima-Maricopa Tribe of Arizona recently hosted a gathering of tribal officials, contractors and architects to discuss construction issues. According to The Arizona Business Gazette, discussion revolved around options for construction. Tribes were warned that the "low bid" approach can often be the most expensive and difficult to control. A White Mountain Apache official said the tribe ended up paying an extra $130,000 on a $100,000 low bid project. Other options include a design / build and construction manager. Each carries its own benefits and drawbacks, tribes were told. Get the Story:
