Okla. tribe seeks money to cure 'sick' building

FRIDAY, MARCH 14, 2003 The Absentee Shawnee Tribe of Oklahoma is applying for federal money to clean up its tribal complex. The century-old buildings have mold, high levels of lead and asbestos and other toxic chemicals. Tribal members and employees have been repeatedly getting sick. The tribe hopes to receive a total of $1.4 million in Environmental Protection Agency Brownfield grants. The grants are used to clean up toxic sites. Get the Story:
