With $8 million in seed money from gaming proceeds, the Winnebago Tribe of Nebraska launched its successful and well recognized economic development corporation.

Ho-Chunk Inc. owns web sites, including Indianz.Com, hotels, gas stations and a modular home building company, among other assets. Credited with reducing unemployment on the reservation to about 5 percent, its worth is $65 million and has attracted attention for separating tribal politics from daily business decisions.

Future plans include a 40-acre, $20 million tribal "village." Corporation CEO is Lance Morgan, a tribal member.
