The Alaska Senate on Thursday approved $1.3 million to lobby for Arctic National Wildlife Refuge development.

If approved by the House and signed into law by Gov. Frank Murkowski (R), most of the funds would go to Arctic Power, a lobbying organization. The Inupiat village of Kaktovik would receive $500,000 to promote tourism efforts.

The village lies within the North Slope of ANWR, eyed for its oil reserves.
