Maryland governor asked to rule on recognition

THURSDAY, MARCH 13, 2003 Maryland Governor Bob Ehrlich (R) has been given a confidential recommendation on a tribe seeking state recognition. The Piscataway Conoy Confederacy and Sub-Tribes, which has reportedly 3,500 members, wasn't told of the recommendation by the state Department of Housing and Community Development. Ehrlich has final say and is under no deadline to make a decision. The tribe is a separate from the rival Piscataway Nation. Get the Story:
