A former New York county lawmaker doesn't "believe in a sovereign nation" but is urging cohorts not to oppose a proposed tribal bingo hall, The Syracuse Post-Standard reports.

Ralph W. Standbrook says Cayuga County should try to negotiate with the Seneca-Cayuga Tribe. He says the county might be able to gain financially and draw tourists.

The tribe is currently based in Oklahoma but has ancestral ties to New York.
